Former Chief Justice K. Sripavan will provide a written statement with regard to the complaint filed on alleged frauds that took place in the Mahapola fund, to the Police unit attached to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) to investigate corruption of the current government.

A team of police officers of the commission was to interview the former chief justice at his residence in Wellawatte around 8.30 yesterday morning. However, the former Chief Justice informed the Police Unit that he would provide a written statement to the Police Unit.

Accordingly questions will be sent to the former Chief Justice within next week.  MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has lodged a complaint in the PCoI into the alleged corruption in the Mahapola Trust Fund from 2015 to 2018.  The complaint alleges that there was a financial irregularity in transferring the funds of the Sri Lanka Information Technology Institute (SLIIT) in Malabe, which was under the Mahapola Trust Fund, to a private committee and transferring the funds to a private bank.  The former Chief Justice was appointed as the President of the Mahapola Trust Fund. Accordingly, Mr. Sripavan acted during that period as the Chief Justice.
