Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara, known to be a Sajith Premadasa loyalist, was critical of moves by the United National Party (UNP) to support a resolution to dissolve Parliament saying instead the government should step down as soon as possible and pave the way for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to form a new administration.

He said a snap general election would be advantageous only to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The minister said only the deal makers in his party were interested in getting Parliament dissolved at this time.
“It is not in the interests of our party to dissolve Parliament at this time. Let the new President dissolve it under the terms of the Constitution,” he said.
