MPs urge need for people-friendly, home- grown Constitution

Two ruling party MPs in Parliament yesterday called for quick action to compile a people friendly home grown Constitution.   
The requests came from Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila and MP M. Athaullah who represents the Muslims in the East. 

“We defeated efforts made by some NGOs to get a constitution compiled to suit their whims and fancies. However it is time now to come up with a new home grown Constitutions to fulfil expectations of Sri Lankan people,” Mr. Gammanpila said.   


MP Athaullah requested the new Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene to immediately convert the new Parliament into a Constitutional Assembly in order to compile a new Constitution which ensurea equality for all people.
