Sri Lanka commemorated the first anniversary of the Easter Sunday attacks on a low key, because of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Bells were sounded in Catholic churches and in Buddhist temples at 8.45 am together with the observing of a two-minute silence.
Candles were lit at homes following the request of the Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith who himself did the same at Bishop’s House, Colombo.
The Cardinal called for interfaith unity in order to prevent similar disasters in the future and called for probes to come across uncovered information about the carnage.
Around 280 persons were killed during the bomb attacks on three churches and several hotels on April 21, 2019. Some 167 persons who were injured are still undergoing medical treatment as of today.
