Longest ballot paper coming for Gampaha

Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya yesterday said the longest ballot paper for the upcoming 2020 general elections would be printed for the Gampaha and Jaffna Districts. 

He said the ballot paper was 23 inches long and 4.5 inches wide.   


There are 15 political parties and 18 independent groups’ contesting in the Gampaha District this year while 10 parties and 14 independent groups are contesting in the Jaffna District.  


The widest ballot paper was printed for Colombo, Wanni, Digamadulla and Batticaloa districts and it was 9 inches wide. Some 17 political parties and 26 independent groups are contesting in Colombo, 17 political parties and 28 independent groups are contesting in the Wanni while 16 parties and 22 independent groups are contesting in the Batticloa District.   


The average width of the ballot paper was 4.75 inches  


The shortest ballot paper was printed for Hambantota, Moneragala and Polonnaruwa districts and it was 12 inches long.  


Digamadulla is the district for which the highest number of political parties and independent groups are contesting with 19 political parties and 34 independent groups in the fray.
