A special investigation should be carried out by the authorities to arrest or take stern legal action against the perpetrators who hacked several websites with ‘.lk’ domain on Saturday (6), Domain Registrar Prof. Gihan Dias told the Daily Mirror.

While issuing the second report of the attack, the Domain Registry yesterday said they could not find any evidence of any additional domains (other than those initially identified) being affected by this attack, he said.  “We have also not found any evidence of any nature to other .LK websites. However, we are continuing our investigations, and would issue further updates as needed,” Prof. Dias said.

The issue was attended to expeditiously, and resolved by 8.30 am on Saturday, he said.

“During the investigations, we found some names were cached in the systems outside the registry and may surface until the cache expires.  However, we are currently investigating the issue to take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future,” the Domain Registry head said.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Information Technology Association (SLITA) President Rajeev Yasiru Kuruwitage said this attack could be considered as a cyber attack.
