Less complaints this year - CIABOC

The number of complaints received by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery Or Corruption (CIABOC) in 2017 has been reduced to 2768 in 2017 compared to 3450 in the previous year.   


Some 1662 complaints out of 2766 have been picked for further investigations.   


As per the CIABOC annual report of the 2017 presented to Parliament yesterday, 12 police officers, two school principals and one vice principal, a former Pradeshiya Sabha member, a labourer, a specialist physician, a public health service officer, three employees from the Department of Motor Traffic, two employees from People’s Bank and two civil officers had been arrested for bribery in 2017.   


There have been 79 cases of obtaining assets illegally, the report further added.
