The Japanese government decided to provide Rs. 12 million under its Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Project for the establishment of a Japanese Language Laboratory at the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Rajarata University, a statement said.
The Grant Contract was signed between Japanese Ambassador Akira Sugiyama, and Vice Chancellor of Rajarata University Dr. B.A. Karunaratne, February 27, 2019 at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Colombo recently. Minister of Town Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Rauf Hakeem, as well as other distinguished guests graced this occasion.
As Japan prepares for accepting more foreign workers, this grant assistance provides equipment for practical Japanese language education. Together with the new method called “Active learning” (group work on hexagon desk) and a new textbook published by Japan Foundation, it is expected that this project would place Rajarata University as the focal point of practical Japanese language education. The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka hopes this project would promote academic and cultural exchanges between Japan and Sri Lanka and deepen the understanding of Japan in Sri Lanka.
