The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) brought about a change in the party leadership in the Monaragala District. Accordingly, MP Sumeda G. Jayasena who functioned as the Monaragala District leader has been replaced by the organiser for the Wellawaya electorate, former minister Jagath Pushpakumara.
Meanwhile, former minister Gamini Vijith Wijayamuni Soysa who had been the organiser for the Bibile electorate has been replaced by his son, Uva Provincial Councillor Udara Wijayamuni Soysa while former minister Sumedha G. Jayasena who functioned as the organiser for the Monaragala electorate has been replaced by her son, Uva Provincial Council Minister Saliya Sumedha Silva.
