Jaffna Mayor using private security team for police duty in Jaffna: SJB MP

SJB MP Kins Nelson brought to the notice of the House that the Jaffna Mayor had assigned a separate security team to carry out duties of the police and urged the Government to look into the matter.  

He told Parliament that this security team clad in uniform were assigned to regulate traffic in the Jaffna city.  
He inquired if the government was aware of the matter adding that it was a serious situation. 

 
Minister Chamal Rajapaksa said the matter could be discussed at the next Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence.  
Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) MP Charles Nirmalanathan said the Mayor was a member of the the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP).
