Two special hot-line numbers, 1917 and 1997 has been introduced by the Sri Lanka Police to provide information on crimes and toxic narcotics, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said.

He said all calls received will be monitored by a secret unit at the police headquarters and these phone numbers will be active from today (28).

Information could be provided to the 1997 hot-line to report on toxic drugs, activities that could disrupt public peace, large-scale corruption, organised crimes and gang activities and extortion, the Spokesman said.
He said the 1917 hot-line number can also be used to provide information on illicit assets of criminal gang members or other fraudulent activities.
