Indonesian flight on emergency landing at BIA

A 330 type passenger aircraft (GA 972) belonging to Garuda Indonesian Airways had an emergency landing at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night due to smoke that occurred inside the aircraft, Airport Duty Manager said.  

Speaking to the Dailymirror  he said the flight landed after the pilot informed about the smoke inside the aircraft to the BIA control room.   


At the time of the incident the flight was passing the Sri Lankan airspace to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from Kantar International airport in Indonesia, he said.   
The BIA had prepared with ambulances, fire trucks with other requirements to an emergency landing.   


The flight had landed at 9.00p.m with 338 passengers including the crew.   


The BIA technical team are looking into the incident.   


After completion of flight hours, the crew members are not allowed to continue the flight, instead, the crew members and passengers have been sent to hotels. This is in accordance with international aviation regulations.
