Illegal entry to TN CCD officer involved in heroin case arrested in Tamil Nadu

Sri Lanka Police launched an investigation on the Police Constable attached to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), who was wanted over the seizure of 23kg of heroin in Sapugaskanda recently, after he was arrested in Tamil Nadu, India.   

The Indian Coastal Security wing police patrolling the Dhanushkodi beach, arrested the Sri Lankan on Saturday night after he illegally entered Tamil Nadu.   


According to the Indian police, the suspect was seen walking towards Mukundarayar Chatram in Dhanushkodi.   
The Meegahawatta Police last week arrested a suspect with 23kg of heroin which had a street value of over Rs.230 million during a raid carried out at Samadhi Mawatha in Sapugaskanda.   


It was revealed that the arrested suspect was a brother of a police constable attached to the Colombo Crimes Division. The arrested suspect, a 37-year-old resident of Sapugaskanda had been running a carpentry workshop in the area.   


Police commenced investigations to arrest his brother who was suspected of being involved in heroin trafficking.   The 30-year-old has been identified as Pradeep Kumar Bandaranayake, a resident of Mannar district.   
The Indian media reported that the suspect was brought to the Danushkodi Police station for interrogation.   At the interrogation, it was found that a Sri Lankan friend of his had told him that he was going to meet his acquaintance in Rameswaram and that he would get a job in Tamil Nadu.
