ITSSL Chairman arrested for sharing false news about Govt. websites: Police

The Criminal Investigation Department arrested Chairman of the Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka (ITSSL) Rajeev Yasiru Kuruwitage Mathew for sharing false news claiming several government web sites, including the Presidential Secretariat web site, had been hacked, police said. 

 Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspect had issued statements since last week stating that websites of the Presidential Secretariat, External Affairs Ministry, Medical Research Institute, Survey Department of Sri Lanka have been subject to a massive cyber attack.   


According to the news, the ITSSL Chairman had informed the relevant authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent such attacks.   


The CID arrested a 23-year-old Kuruwitage Mathew on Monday for publishing the fake notice.   
He was arrested for violating the Computer Crimes Act and was to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrates’ Court.
