I struggled between life and death - Pavithra

• THE Minister commended the frontline workers AND medical staff at the IDH adding that she owes them her life
• an infection which entered her bloodstream made her recovery more complicated

 

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi who recently recovered from Covid-19 said that she struggled between life and death. Minister Wanniarachchi tested positive for Covid-19 on January 23, and was later admitted to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) for treatment, where she spent several weeks undergoing treatment.   

In an emotional interview with the State owned Rupavahini, Minister Wanniarachchi recounted her near death experience, explaining how she had to seek the assistance of a ventilator to breathe. “I knew that I was struggling between life and death. I could see that my health was deteriorating and I was convinced that I wouldn’t make it until the next morning,” she said.  
The Minister also said an infection which entered her bloodstream made her recovery more complicated. Minister Wanniarachchi commended the frontline workers including medical staff at the IDH adding that she owes them her life. “I must say that they are divinity on earth. If not for them, you would have been at my funeral,” she said. The Minister said that the commitment of the medical staff as well as her own will to survive, led to her recovery from the deadly disease.
