Heads of SriLankan Airline summoned before COPE

The heads of SriLankan Airlines have been summoned by the Committee on Public Enterprise (COPE) on February 19, 2020 to inquire about the controversial deal with Airbbus, its chairman JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti said. He said that he has decided to hold an inquiry after summoning them for an initial discussion. At this meeting, several deals of the SriLankan Airlines are scheduled to be probed.   

 An investigation has been already carried out regarding the deals of Sri Lankan Airlines. Mr. Handunnetti said that at a time when there was uproar about the Airbus deal in the country, it is important to initiate a fresh inquiry.   


Meanwhile, one - day - debate is scheduled to be held in Parliament on February 20, 2020 regarding this deal. Sri Lanka Cricket is also scheduled to be summoned before COPE on February 18.   


Mr. Handunnetti said that, although COPE has decided to take up the Forensic Audit Report of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, it was differed as the government financial committee has decided to take it up on February 18.
