Handing over of nominations for General Election ends today noon

Handing over of nominations for the April 25 General Election will be closed at noon today while almost all the political parties and a large number of Independent Groups submitted their nominations yesterday.   

By Tuesday afternoon, a total of 36 political parties and 75 Independent Groups had handed over their nominations at 22 electoral districts. 

 
The UNP started tendering of nominations yesterday when former minister Vajira Abeywardana handed over the party’s nomination list for the Galle District at the Galle District Secretariat.   


At Matara, Education Minister Dulles Alahapperuma handed over the party’s nomination list for Matara at the Matara District Secretariat, former JVP Parliamentarian, Sunil Handunetti for the JVP and Mahinda Devage for Socialist Party of Sri Lanka, Kamil Kumara Senarath Yapa for Janasetha Peramuna.   At Wanni District, Upali Samarasinghe handed over nomination list on behalf of the JVP. At Badulla, former Provincial Councillor Samantha Vidyaratne handed over the nomination list for Jthika Janabalawegaya for the Badulla District.   


Meanwhile, leader of the Nava Sihala Urumaya, Sarath Manamendra handed over his party’s nomination list for Gampaha District at the Gampaha District Secretariat and former Provincial Councillor R. M Jayawardana handed over the nomination list of the JVP led Jathika Janabalawegaya for the Monaragala District.  At Ratnapura, S. Shantha Kumara handed over the nomination list of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya led by UNP’s Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa. Janasetha Peramuna, Jathika Janatha Paksaya, and two Independent Groups also tendered nomination lists for Ratnapura.
