President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should intervene to ensure that a proper investigation is conducted on the grenade incident in Borella Church, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday.

“Political games will affect Sri Lanka’s security adversely and therefore the President should intervene and ensure that a proper investigation is carried out with regard to the church incident,” Mr. Wijewardene said while speaking to some party activists in Biyagama.

“Masterminds who are trying to fulfil political aspirations by negotiating religious harmony should be uncovered,” he added.  Also, Mr Wijewardene said cabinet should intervene to resolve the issue arisen between the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the power crisis as a whole. He said the CPC had refused to supply fuel to CEB as the latter had not paid for years. “This situation should be looked into as CEB does not supply power to people free of charge,” Mr. Wijewardene said.

“We have noticed that CEB is engaged in power interruptions despite the assurances given by the subject minister that there will be no power cuts,” he added.  The UNP Deputy Leader said the government should look for ways and means to earn dollars rather than going in for borrowings.
