A new Act to prohibit the publication, telecasting or broadcasting of child pornography and obscene material will be introduced shortly, Co-Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.
The government was disturbed on the recent rapid escalation of incidences of unrestricted posting of child pornography through information technology and other media are increased rapidly in the recent past and the new Act would address this crime systematically, Minister Rambukwella said.
“Although the provisions are included in the penal code and the obscene Publications ordinance to deal with such matters, it appears that the provisions are inadequate to meet the present circumstances,” Mr. Rambukwella stressed.
