Gangster taken into custody with T-56 automatic weapon

A gangster, suspected to have helped criminals to obtain weapons, was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) and a T56 automatic assault rifle taken into custody during a raid at Nikadalupotha in Wellawa. 

The STF also recovered 22 rounds of ammunition and a T56 magazine which were hidden in a barrel before being buried.

  
Initial investigation revealed that the weapons belonged to a deceased underworld ciriminal known as ‘Malwatte Manju.’ Police suspect that the weapons were being hired out to criminals.  


The 52-year-old suspect, a resident of Nikadalupotha was handed over to the CID for further investigations.  


STF personnel led by Chief Inspector Nadeeka Silva carried out the arrest under the directions of STF Commandant.
