The search warrant which led to UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake’s arrest was issued with the hope of obtaining proof to reveal corruption under the previous regime, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader and MP Udaya Gammanpila said yesterday.

“It was reported that a telephone call recording application installed in MP Ramanayake’s phone stored acts of coercion against the police and the court. The search warrant was issued based on information received by the police through a close associate of MP Ramanayake regarding these telephone conversations. During the search, a pistol was found prompting the arrest of the MP. However, the reason behind the search was not a trivial matter such as a pistol and pornographic material,” he said.

He said recordings of relevant telephone conversations had already been discovered and therefore responsible parties would face repercussions of their actions before long.
