The suspect who was arrested on the charges of forging the signature of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, was yesterday ordered to be further remanded till July 1 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate.
When the matter was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake, Attorney-at-Law representing the suspect said that during the previous hearing, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed that his client had allegedly sought assistance from an individual attached to the Prime Minister’s office.
“When the case was taken up before the Court during the previous hearing, an OIC of the CID who was handling the investigation, informed that they were continuing further investigations into the incident to determine the link between the suspect and the official who is attached to the Prime Minister’s office,” Magistrate said.
However, the CID officer who appeared in the Court said that he did not make such submission.
Suspect Prasanna Aruna Kumara was arrested on June 3 for allegedly forging President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s signature on several documents. A complaint was initially made to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau but later transferred to the CID.
