Five die, 21 injure in bus – jeep collision on A9 in Omanthai

At least five persons were killed and 21 others sustained injuries when a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus collided with a Jeep on the Kandy – Jaffna Road in Omanthai last evening, the Police said. 


The accident had occurred around 7.30 p.m. yesterday when a SLTB bus bound for Jaffna on the A9 Road (Kandy – Jaffna Road) had collided with a van near the 218 Km post.   
When contacted Police Media Unit officials said that there was no sufficient information to tell, whether the van was heading to the opposite direction or bound for the same direction as the bus did. With the collision the van had caught by fire and the casualties of both the vehicles had been rushed to the Vavuniya Hospital.   


Three men and one woman were among the deceased who were yet to be identified at the time this edition went to press last night, whilst 21 other casualties are being treated at the hospital.Omanthai Police are conducting investigations.
