Female returnee from India reported as 12th Covid-19 death in SL

Nearly three months after the eleventh Covid-19 related death in Sri Lanka, a 47-year-old woman, who returned from India and being treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) has died due to Covid-19, reporting the 12th death from the virus infection in Sri Lanka, the Health Ministry said.    

The victim, Rasidin Fatima Rizana who is a resident of Mawathagama was reportedly suffering from a heart condition.   


She arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport on August 20 and was taken to the Iranavila Quarantine Centre for quarantine, where it was confirmed that she was infected with Covid-19 virus on the same day.   
She was then sent to IDH on August 22.   


She had gone to India six months ago to seek treatment for cancer. She was also being treated for diabetes.   
Her last rites were performed yesterday at Kotikawatta Public Cemetery.  Her husband, who is also currently under quarantine at the Dolphin Hotel Quarantine Centre, has been given the opportunity by the Army to attend his wife’s funeral. The eleventh Covid-19 death was reported in Sri Lanka on June 1.
