The daily revenue on the expressway has declined to Rs.15-16 million due to the current fuel shortage, Highway Operations (Maintenance and Management) Director Nihal Ludowyke said.

He said the expressway revenue has almost halved when compared to the traffic on expressway before the fuel crisis.

He said statistics confirm that the frequency of traffic on the Southern Expressway, the Outer Circular Highway, the Colombo-Katunayake Road and the Central Expressway was 102,000 a day before the fuel crisis, and now the frequency is low, stand between 55,000 and 60,000.  It is 53% and the average daily revenue from the expressway before the fuel crisis was around Rs. 28 million, he added.
