Mankulam Police said excavations have been stopped until the report of the Judicial Medical Officer of Kilinochchi was received on the skeletal remains found at the premises of the Mankulam Hospital’s new ward complex in Mullaitivu.
They said that some more skeletal remains had been excavated on Thursday on the orders o Mullaitivu Magistrate S. Lenin Kumar.
Police the skeletal remains decayed parts of clothes, several pieces of iron and cartridges were found during the excavations. The excavation was carried out with the assistance of of police personnel, archaeological officers, police bomb disposal squad.
The skeletal remains were first found at the Mankulam hospital complex premises on February 11, 2020 when the new hospital complex was being constructed.
Mankulam police are conducting investigations under the direction of the Mankulam HQ IP Asitha Thotagodawatta.
