Former President Maithripala Sirisena said today that the Easter Sunday attack was planned to disrupt the anti-drug campaign launched by him.

Speaking at a meeting in Hingurakgoda, he said the anti-drug Campaign was successfully launched in his tenure as the President and added that he attempted to implement the death penalty for drug trafficking in a move to eradicate drugs.

He said for the first time in the world, drug traffickers filed a case in the Supreme Court against the President’s move to implement the death penalty and that he was the first President to face such an incident.

He said after high profile drug traffickers such as Makandure Madush were arrested and remanded, drug dealers had been conspiring to kill him.
