There were several views expressed in Parliament yesterday with regard to the summoning of the President by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to inquire into the Easter Sunday attacks.

Several opposition and government MPs stressed the need to summon the President before the PSC on the basis that he was the Minister of Defence and Law and Order.
JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the President should be questioned on the basis that he was the head of the State and Minister of Defense, Law and Order.
UNP MP Ashu Marasinghe also underscored the fact that it was vital for the President to be summoned before the PSC.

UNP MP S.M. Marikkar said the work of the PSC would be nullified unless the President was questioned with regard to the April 21 carnage.

UPFA MP Dayasiri Jayasekara responded saying there was no tradition to summon a President before a committee and even criticize a President in Parliament.
