Public Health Inspectors (PHI) have warned that disinfectants are not being effectively sprayed at public locations by various officials.

Spraying of disinfectants for the corona virus is being carried out at public places by the security forces, politicians and others apart from PHI officers.

The PHI Union said the disinfectants were not being sprayed effectively at some locations, and as a result it was only a waste of public funds.

Union Secretary Mahendra Balasuriya told the Daily Mirror that spraying of disinfectants for the corona virus should be carried out under the guidance of the Health Ministry or area PHI officers.

He said there were also concerns about the disinfectants not being mixed with the approved quantity of water before being sprayed.

Balasuriya also said the disinfectants do not last for more than 24 hours after being sprayed.

As a result, he said that spraying of disinfectants at a public location, including the road only once and not daily, was of no use.
