Customs to release containers, vehicles stuck in ports

Steps have been taken to expedite the release of containers and imported vehicles stuck at the Colombo and Hambantota Ports, the Customs Department said yesterday.   

Customs Department on the instructions of its Director General of the Sri Lanka Customs Department, Retired Major General Vijitha Ravipriya, has issued curfew passes for those concerned to ensure all the containers are released soon, Customs spokesman said.   


Special scanners have been installed at the Colombo Port to expedite the process of checking the goods and releasing them to the market. He said that several vehicles imported to Sri Lanka, stuck at the Hambantota Port are also being released by issuing curfew passes for the vehicles to be taken out.
