The Supreme Court (SC) is to sit this morning to take up new petitions filed in the SC while media reports said, several citizens and civil society organisations had sought legal redress from the apex court to come out of the current constitutional and electoral crisis, the Daily Mirror learns.
A spokesman of the office of the Supreme Court told Daily Mirror that the office would be kept open today between 9.00 am to 1.00 pm to take up newly filed petitions.
The spokesman added that under the prevailing situation, if the apex court takes up the petitions today, only the counsel of the two parties and representatives of the Attorney General would be permitted in the chamber.
Meanwhile, media spokesman of the TNA, former Parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran flatly rejected the media reports that he had also filed a petition relating to the current impasse of holding the election and also re-convening of Parliament. He also said he had not been summoned by the Supreme today Court either to appear before it. Some media reports, however, said some seven petitions had been filed on the issue in the SC and would be taken up today.
