Communist Party’s K P Silva laid to rest

The funeral of the former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL) K. P. Silva was held at the Kanatte General Cemetery last afternoon amid a large gathering of party members, supporters, intellectuals, politicians and the general public.   


The remains of Mr. Silva was taken to the cemetery from the Communist Party Headquarters, Borella at 10.00 am yesterday where it was lain for the public to pay their last respects.   


Comrade K.P. started his career as a worker at the Leather Factory. Emerging as a Trade Union Leader he joined the Lanka Sama Samaja Party. He was one of the leaders of the 1947 General Strike along with T. B. Ilangaratne, Bala Tampoe etc. 

 
At the 10th Congress of the CPSL, he was elected the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka.   


He represented the CPSL in Parliament.   He was a Champion of the Left Unity and National Unity. He distinguished himself as the first working class comrade who rose to the position of General Secretary.
