The President’ Secretary had issued a circular to all government institutions requesting them to refrain from advertising through private media, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Manusha Nanayakkara alleged yesterday.

MP Nanayakkara tabled a copy of the circular while speaking during the committee stage debate on the budget in the House last afternoon.

“Government advertisements accounts for 40 percent of total advertisements received by media institutions. However we propose that there should be a mechanism where government advertisements are allocated among private and state media. Only those media institutions which back the government are given state advertisements at the moment” the MP said.
