Catholic Church losing its trust in the incumbent government is not a good thing as far as the country is concerned, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said.

Speaking during a public gathering in Hatton said the recent remarks which Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith came out with clearly states that the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka has lost its faith in the government.

“ It is clear that the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka has lost its faith in the government when considering the questions raised by Cardinal Ranjith on the investigations carried out by the police on the Borella Church grenade incident. This is not a healthy situation as far as the nation is concerned,” Mr. Premadasa said.

“Therefore, it is essential to carry out proper investigations on the incident,” he added.

“Also, the cardinal and the Sri Lanka Catholic Church do not seem to be satisfied with the investigations that are being conducted on the Easter Sunday attacks. Cardinal had said the Easter Sunday attacks were aimed at gaining political mileage. Therefore, a future SJB government will conduct a proper investigation and will penalize everyone who is responsible for the attack. I can certainly give a guarantee on it as I am also a victim of terrorism as I lost my father as a result of a terrorist attack,” he added.

Taking a swipe of the economic crisis, Mr. Premadasa said the government has awakened from a slumber and is going around the globe begging for dollars.
