With the detection of six more COVID-19 victims, the total number of confirmed cases of victims rose to 310 yesterday.
Acting Chief of Defense Staff and Army Commander Lt. General Shavendra Silva said 5 of the victims found yesterday were from Bandaranayake Mawatha, Colombo 12 where the largest number of victims to date numbering 37 were detected on Monday.
General Silva added that 24 victims were in the group of 264 sent for self quarantine earlier from the area. One out of the six COVID-19 victims found yesterday is from Warakapola. Five others were detected during the PCR tests carried out on 320 individuals sent for quarantine at Punani from Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo 12, he said.
“The victims detected yesterday had closely associated with the woman we detected on the 16th at Kotahena. Her husband and son also fell victims to the viral infection later. Altogether 10 have been infected in one family in addition to another 6,” General Silva said. A total of 1,200 have been subjected to quarantine and PCR tests. Another 1,020 have also been sent for quarantine from the area yesterday.
The Consultant Physician of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), Dr. Eranga Narangoda said the new detections of COVID-19 victims were still to be admitted to the NIID.
The total number recovered from the disease stood at 100 by yesterday, Dr. Narangoda said.
Districtwise, there were 110 patients with viral infections in hospitals in the District of Colombo yesterday, 45 in Kalutara, 35 in Puttalam, 32 in Gampaha, 16 in Jaffna, 7 in Kandy, 5 in Ratnapura 3 in Kegalle and two each in Kurunegala, Matara, Kalmunai and one each in Galle, Batticaloa, Vavuniya and Badulla Districts.
Meanwhile, 49 more individuals from the Punani Quarantine Centre after completion of a three-week-long quarantine spell, left for home with the help of transport facilities provided by the Army. They were taken to Colombo and its suburbs having supplied them with snacks, water and lunch packets on their way with special focus on food varieties for infants and kids.
