COVID-19 cases surge to 1469; 732 fully recovered

The total of COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka rose to 1469, while as many as 52 sailors tested positive yesterday, a communique from the Information Department said.  

 All these sailors were under quarantine at a centre in Jaffna. Out of the 1469, 732 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.   


The health authorities conducted 1146 PCR tests on Tuesday and 137 patients identified. Of them, 127 were returnees from Kuwait while the others were sailors.   The Consultant Physician of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), Dr. Eranga Narangoda meanwhile said two Covid-19 patients remained at the ICU of the NIID and one of them was in critical condition yesterday and the other was improving, he said.
