COVID-19 cases in Colombo from Peliyagoda-Minuwangoda cluster exceeds 5,000

205 cases reported from the  Colombo District on Sunday morning

The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Colombo District from the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters exceeded 5,000 yesterday.   

Accordingly, a total of 5,127 COVID-19 patients were reported in the Colombo District as of today since October 4 with the 205 cases reported Sunday morning.   


The total number of COVID-19 cases reported from Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters stand at 13,079 as of last morning.   


The National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said that 4,917 cases were reported in the Gampaha District while 595 cases were reported in the Kalutara District during the period. 40 patients and 14 patients were reported from Gampaha and Kalutara Districts respectively during the last 24-hour period ended on Sunday morning.   


A total of 234 persons from Kurunegala, 182 from Kegalle, 134 from Kandy, 118 from Galle, 107 from Ratnapura also contracted with the virus since October 4.   


Meanwhile,  a total of 17,127 cases were reported from all over the country and of that 11,495 patients were fully-recovered and discharged from hospitals while another 5,579 patients are under medical care at hospitals.   
The total number of deaths reported due to coronavirus is 58.   


At least 30,000 persons of first and second contacts of COVID-19 positive cases are under self-quarantine.
