Fourteen Public Health Inspectors (PHI)s attached to Colombo Municipal Council ( CMC) in a letter addressed to Chief Medical Officer of the Council said that they had decided to undergo self-quarantine due to suspicion that they were interacting with COVID-19 patients.

“We are suffering mentally. We suspect whether we have been infected with COVID-19 and as we also think that we might subject the city dwellers to risk” they said in the letter.

“We feel we might subject people to risk as we have already worked from April 15 to 26 where we have detected some people with the disease and sent around 13,000 to quarantine centres” they added. Also they demanded that they are subject to PCR tests since they don’t have self-protective equipment.  Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer CMC Dr. Ruwan Wijeyamuni said they were sent on quarantine as they felt they needed it . “We allowed them to go on self-quarantine as they are subject to high risks” he said.  Dr. Wijeyamuni also said he had got new PHIs to substitute the 14 PHIs who have gone on self-quarantine process.
