The CID yesterday informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate that the Defence Ministry had approved a further 3-month detention and interrogation of Attorney Hejaaz Hizbullah, who is currently being questioned by the CID over the Easter Sunday attack.

When the case was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage the CID also informed that Mr. Hizbullah was currently infected with the COVID-19 virus and that further investigations are being carried out regarding the incident.

Producing the PCR report of Hizbullah, the CID informed the Magistrate that COVID-19 had been infected to a group of suspects, including underworld kingpin Kosgoda Tharaka, who is currently being questioned.

The CID informed Court that Mr. Hizbullah was now receiving treatment at the Kalutara Police Training College COVID-19 treatment centre, under medical supervision of the CID.

Hizbullah was arrested in April last year under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with the Easter Sunday coordinated terror attack on April 21, 2019.
