The Court of Appeal (CA) yesterday issued notice returnable for June 21 on civil rights activist Professor Sarath Wijesuriya over contempt of court. The bench comprised Justices Deepali Wijesundara and Achala Wengappulli.
The complaint filed by Attorney Sampath Vajira Kumara and Retired Army Officer Anil Wasantha Alwis states Prof. Wijesuriya had purportedly made defamatory remarks against the judiciary on several occasions including on social media. President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena instructed by Ravindranath Dabare appeared for the complainants.
