Bond scam cases CJ appoints two Trials-at-Bar

Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya has appointed two Trials-at-Bar to hear the Bond Scam cases involving the two bond auctions of March 2016, at the request of the Attorney General (AG), an official said.   Attorney General’s Coordinating Secretary Nishara Jayaratne confirmed this to the Daily Mirror.

High Court Judges D. Thotawatta, Manjula Thilakarathne  and M. Isadeen were appointed to the first trial-at-bar while High Court Judges Amal Ranaraja, Namal Balalle and  Adithya Patabandige were appointed to the second trial-at-bar to hear the Bond Scam cases.


The Attorney General requested earlier to try ten accused in the case. Among them are former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, former Governor of Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran and his son in law Arjun Aloysius.
Subsequently, on February 15, he made a request for another Trial-at-Bar to hear the relevant case.
 Accordingly, Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya has appointed two separate Trials-at-Bar to hear the case.
