Spiritual leader of the International Dawoodi Bohra Community, Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin has initiated a worldwide humanitarian project of distributing food to thousands of needy people in coronavirus-hit countries including Sri Lanka.
As part of this initiative, the Bohra community in Sri Lanka began the first phase of the project last Friday by distributing food to hundreds in the Colombo District which is presently under curfew and declared a high-risk zone.
Community members in collaboration with the police force which included senior officers and Bambalapitiya OIC Wajira Vidanage visited several areas in the district to distribute rations, observing Health Ministry regulations and protective gear.
“Under phase two, rations will be distributed among hundreds of families residing in other districts to ensure they have sufficient food during the pandemic,” said Mufaddal Adamjee, local PR representative of the Bohra community.
The project has already got underway in several other countries including the US, the UK, India, Pakistan, Kuwait, Europe and Dubai.
