The Bill to Abolish the Death Penalty will be presented to Parliament today by UNP MP Bandulalal Banadarigoda in the form of a private member’s motion.
The Bill calls for the death sentence to be commuted to life imprisonment and provides a transitional provision under which any person subjected to death sentence before the enacting of the Bill shall be deemed as sentenced to life imprisonment.
