PCR testing facilities for arrivals commenced yesterday at BIA, Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told a media briefing held at Udugampola, adding that passengers would either be hospitalised or sent for quarantine following
test results.

“This measure was taken following a decision made by the Presidential Task Force appointed to control the spread of COVID-19. The airport is scheduled to open for tourists from August. However, those who arrive in the country will undergo PCR testing. The government’s intention is to repatriate all Sri Lankans stranded overseas. A total of 10,000 Sri Lankans stranded in 21 countries have been repatriated thus far. Another 20,000 are expected to return,” he said.
