Ishan Chaturanga (26), the eldest son of Puttalam District UNP MP Shantha Sisira Kumara Abeysekara, was remanded till July 4 by the Chilaw Magistrate over the assault on a Police Constable (PC) attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD).
The suspect was arrested after he surrendered to the police yesterday. He was later produced in court.
The PC who had been assaulted on Saturday at the MP’s residence in Chilaw is still undergoing treatment at the Chilaw Hospital.
In his statement to the police, the victim revealed that the MP’s son assaulted him with a club in the rest room.
