The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday recorded a 5-hour long statement from former CID Director Shani Abeysekara.
The statement was recorded with regard to the investigations carried out on the incident into the alleged abduction of Swiss Embassy local staffer Garnier Banister Francis. The former Director arrived at the CID around 9.30 am and left the CID around 3 pm.
SSP Abeysekara was interdicted on the directive of the National Police Commission (NPC) on January 8 pending an inquiry into the recordings of phone conversations between him and former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake.
