The Attorney General yesterday instructed the acting IGP to immediately send him a report on the current status of the investigations into the Easter Sunday bomb attacks and the incidents of vandalising the Buddha statues in Mawanella.

In addition to his instructions to Acting IGP C. D. Wickramaratne and the CID Chief, Attorney General Dappula de Livera had directed that investigations into National Thowheed Jama’at (NTJ) should be continued.

“According to available evidence the two suspects under investigation were killed on April 21  during the Sainthamaruthu operation. However, investigations into the NTJ and its members  should be continued,” the letter said.

He said the CID has informed him that both the CID and the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) were conducting separate investigations into the vandalising of Buddha statues in Mawanella last year and the Easter Sunday attack.

“Therefore, the progress of these investigations should be reported to the AG without delay,” AG’s Coordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.
