There will be daily power cuts for four hours islandwide from today, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced yesterday.

CEB Chairman S.B.W. Gunawardane told Daily Mirror that load shedding would be done due to their inability to meet the current electricity demands. He said there was a shortfall in hydro-power generation due to the lack of rain in the reservoir areas due to the dry weather presently being experienced in the country.

He said load shedding would be done for three hours during day time and one hour during night time daily. Additionally, he explained that power cuts would be phased out by dividing the country into three different zones for the benefit of consumers.

During the day time, power cuts will be implemented from 8.30 am to 11.30 am, from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm and from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. During night hours it will be done from 6.30 pm to 7.30pm, 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm and from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
