A 20-day-old infant who tested positive for COVID-19 virus passed away at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital yesterday (08) recording the youngest death due to the virus in the country, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo Director Dr. G. Wijesuriya said.
The Hospital Director said the baby had been receiving treatment at the Hospital.
“The infant had been suffering from pneumonia condition for sometime which might have led to the death of the infant with COVID-19 infection,” he said.
The Director also said there had been a considerable delay in admitting the infant to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the PCR tests carried out on the parents confirmed that they had not been diagnosed with the virus.
