Sri Lanka attends GOSS Private Equity, Risk Management Annual Joint Conference

The second GOSS Private Equity and ninth Risk Management Annual Joint Conference was held on 30 – 31 July 2015 at St. Regis Hotel in Singapore. 
National University of Singapore (NUS) Risk Management Institute (RMI) is one of the leading pioneers of financial risk management research in Asia. 
The Institute was established in August 2006 and was supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) under its program on Risk Management and Financial Innovation.  


Lalith J Fernando, Chief Risk Officer of Bank of Ceylon was invited to be a panel member in the above prestigious institute’s annual conference marking the first ever participation of this nature by a Sri Lankan.  
The conference consisted two folds: Policy forum and the Scientific programme.  Lalith J. Fernando, Chief Risk Officer, Bank of Ceylon was a panel member in which they discussed “Managing Risks in the Emerging Markets”.

Other members of the panel were Xinquan Hu, Chief Risk Officer and Deputy Country Head, Bank of China (Singapore) and Ebert Pattijn, Chief Risk Officer, DBS Bank. Prof. Steven Kou, Director, NUS-RMI and Provost’s Chair of Mathematics, NUS chaired the session.  


Fernando in his presentation gave a vivid analysis on how to guide profit sustainability for businesses in emerging markets while managing risks. Recent trends in emerging markets and the risks faced by these markets were discussed highlighting mechanisms to overcome them. The panel discussion also touched upon other topics such as evolution of risk management in Asia and emerging best practices in risk management. Panelists being well experienced professionals in the financial risk management were able to bring in valuable insights to the forum.
